King Tut in NYC

So I heard the king was going to be in New York for a limited time and I said I have to see this. No I’m not talking about Jay Z, I mean King Tut, the once youngest ruler ever of Egypt. Tut was his nickname. Tut actually stood for Tutankhamun.  This 9 year olds 3000 year old  treasures are on display at the  Discovery Times Square Exposition until January 2, 2011.

The Egyptians were definately Broad & Luxe people. Over 3000 years ago they were brewing beer, making wine & smoking hookahs. They had ships and ports to import and export goods. They also built some of the finest structures in history. No pictures or video are allowed once inside the exhibit, but this is something you should see yourself anyway.

There are 11 rooms of interesting artifacts including Tuts sarcophagus. My only complaints are that King Tuts mummified body was a replica and there were not many gaudy gold cups or jewels. There was a solid gold dagger!  Check it out have fun and then walk around the corner to the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

Check the exibit vid out here…

Deco Drive Cigars, Miami Beach

Just got back from a great Carnival weekend in sexy Miami. South Beach is a very laid back & stylish cigar friendly city. Sit at a restaurant dine outside and feast on lobster linguine fettuccine vodka and pasta.  After that light up a cigar right at the table for desert. Because smoking is allowed just about anywhere cigar lounges exist but they are a cab ride out of the hot zone of South Beach.

The best place to enjoy a smoke in the heart of SoBe is Deco Drive Cigars Located on Lincoln Road. Sit outdoors at a table on the pedestrian walkway people watch and enjoy yourself. Full selection of Davidoff , Padron and more. Good prices on sangria, mojitos, beer, wine, cheese trays & hookah. The hip hop,r&b, reggae, techno or salsa music playing outside is Luxe. Don’t get confused with the Deco on Ocean Drive that location is not up to par. Take the walk, cab or drive the Phantom down to Deco on Lincoln Rd.

Johnnie Walker Double Black

Recently during his travels a Luxe gentleman and comrade @MrBeaton saw something interesting. In true Broad and Luxe fashion he brought this back to the round table to share with us. What I am referring to is a bottle of the latest scotch whiskey blend by Johnnie Walker named ”Double Black”.

Johnnie Walker Double Black is not available in stores yet and can only be found in airport duty free lounges. Our friend found his bottle returning from paradise at JFK. I am a JW drinker from the Black to the Blue so I was excited to enjoy this with my cigar. Still in its classic style JW bottle but with a dark tinted glass. We poured and raised glasses. This Double Black smells great. Yes I smell it(I hate the smell of bottom shelf Hennessy). Smooth very smooth just as I expected. But also more potent than I had expected. After just two fair pours I didn’tneed anymore. Gentlemen know when to say when. If you can get your hands on a bottle(or two) its definitely worth it. Thank you @MrBeaton (follow him on twitter).

Senor Cigars in Ocean City,MD

This past weekend I had a chance to visit Ocean City, Maryland. I had a great time on the free clean beach with fine sand that doesn’t cling to your body like William Baker(the Sandman). Sorry Jersey shore. During my visit I had a chance to check out two cigar lounges and I really liked one named Senor Cigars.

Outside Senor Cigars looks like a small wood baby blue & pink shack. A sign that read cigars & lounge this way pointing toward the front door. Outside beside the front door is a nice size working fountain. I was feeling relaxed just from looking at it. Inside it is very dim lighting. So dim I had to remove my sunglasses to get a good look. I was happy to see a walk in humidor fully stocked with premium cigars. Rocky Patel (but no Olde World Reserves), Padron, Fuente Opus X, Gurkha, Cubao, Perdomo, Drew Estate,..etc.

A nice gentleman made me feel comfortable and assisted me in finding something to my liking. There is an enclosed  patio area and a large out door deck with tables and chairs perfect for the art of relaxation. Senor Cigars has what a cigar lounge is supposed to have, but in a cool beach town kind of way. My only problem was I didn’t have time to sit out on that deck and enjoy my  Arturo Fuente Work of Art.

This was actually my first trip to Ocean City. I really enjoyed myself. I will return for the beach, Phillips seafood buffet, fun on the boardwalk & Senor Cigars. It doesn’t matter if I go to New York, Miami or Maryland whenever I go out of town I always bring cigars with me. But its always cool to visit other cigars lounges. Luxe.

Beer: Magic Hat Wacko

There is more to beer than Heineken, Corona and Henny. I apologize I know Hennessy isn’t a beer but its in good company with these two. Its like the perfect combination of same ol’ same ol’. For some people its all they know. Your poor taste buds are being denied a good education. Please make the summer of 2010 the summer of not drinking the brew you’ve been drinking since the summer you started drinking it!

Try Magic Hats newest summer seasonal brew “Wacko”. I have been familiar with Magic Hat Brewery based out of Vermont for years. They make a quality product and I was satisfied with this brew. Cold, crisp and a little sweet flavored. Not watered down with extra foam.

I even enjoyed this while I smoked a full bodied cigar. A Rocky Patel Olde World Reserve did not take away from the taste of the beer or create any bitterness.  Remember drink whatever beer makes you happy just don’t be this guy…

Private Jet Options

Welcome back to Broad & Luxe I apologize for the hiatus. Remember the site was under construction but now Carlton and I are back. I hope everyone has been enjoying themselves I know I have.

This past weekend Flight Options  reached out to a friend of mine, Steve, who invited me to come along for The Phenom 300 Tour. Flight Options offers very flexible options to private jet membership. Think of it as a timeshare, but instead of a villa on an island its your aircraft awaiting you on the runway.

The Flight Options rep explained these are entry level jets. The Phenom 300 is a 7 passenger with amenitiesof  2 pilots, stewardess,cd/dvd,phone,microwave, bar and food on request. No extra charges for luggage ,golf clubs and your on your own schedule. This is traveling at its finest. Not much standing room if you’re over 6ft, but very comfortable sitting which is what you will be doing most of the time.  As surprisingly affordable as this seems to be and as interested as a few of my comrades are, I would still rather dock a nice 28 footer. Gentlemen?

Also in my travels this weekend I attempted to purchase some African Ciclids and jewelry.  Both failed attempts due to horrible customer service. The best sales service I recieved was from the Flight Options representative. Respect.

Shout out to Steve a.k.a. http://twitter.com/steelsouls

Travel Tips:Booking,Flight & Hotel

One of my favorite benefits of being grown is the freedom to travel.  Travel when, where, how and with who you want. No waiting for summer, spring breaks or winter recess. When to go is a simple matter of scheduling vacation time. Where to go is easily decided by research and/or recommendation. The problem can arise with who you travel with and how.

I get asked a lot to go on trips by really cool people. Fact is I cant travel with just any and everybody. Some people are meant to be left at home. So I’m going to drop some of travel tips of how to get the getaway started right. (*Note: these tips are for trips with the fellas or group couples. Not romantic getaways!)
